A comprehensive, statewide freight and logistics plan was developed for Georgia. The GDOT plan, developed by a partnership of public and private forces, provides vital strategic direction for future investment in transportation infrastructure that serves Georgia’s freight and logistics industries.

  The Georgia Statewide Freight & Logistics Plan 2010-2050 ensures that planned projects for Georgia’s transportation system are in balance with the demand for freight and logistics.   The plan:

  • Provides an understanding of how freight flows in and through Georgia, regardless of which mode(s) are used;
  • Identifies specific programs and projects that will improve freight traffic for each mode. Highway projects are thenprioritized and sequenced by corridor, so it is clear what needs to be done and when;
  • Evaluates the economic benefits of implementing the freight plan and provides this vital information for the private sector, elected officials and the general public; and
  • Generated support from a broad set of stakeholders regarding the plan’s recommendations, including a Private Sector Advisory Committee.
• Background

  Freight and logistics is a critical component in Georgia’s economy and transportation network, The Freight & Logistics Plan is linked to prior major planning and state transportation initiatives such as:

  • Investing in Tomorrow’s Transportation Today (IT3)
  • Statewide Strategic Transportation Plan

  It will be very important for infrastructure and transportation planning. The Plan is also unique in that it will serve as an economic development tool that can be used to market Georgia, retain and support existing businesses, attract and grow jobs, and promote investment to the State.
