The MultiModal Passenger Terminal (MMPT) will bring together various ground and rail transit services in a centralized downtown location to create a vital connection link for the people of metro-Atlanta and beyond. The MMPT will be the hub for existing and proposed transportation networks, including the existing MARTA rail and bus systems, the regional express bus systems, and the Georgia railroad network.
Current facilities in Atlanta for intercity rail, intercity bus and local/regional transit are inadequate, poorly connected and capacity constrained. Providing improved connections between the various existing transportation services is required to improve utilization of existing services as well as facilitate system expansion. The purpose of the MMPT is to replace these inadequate and disconnected transportation facilities, connect modes of transportation, increase transit ridership and facilitate and accommodate future transportation investments and economic development.
It is anticipated that the proximity of the MMPT to central downtown Atlanta will provide the catalyst for additional development opportunities within the MMPT site and in adjacent locations. The Georgia DOT is seeking a Master Developer to build the MMPT and transportation improvements in part by leveraging the potential for retail, commercial, and residential projects it will receive the rights to develop.
Federal and State Agencies Begin Environmental Review
Georgia DOT has officially begun preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) on the proposed Georgia MultiModal Passenger Terminal (MMPT). The Environmental Protection Agency, on behalf of the Federal Transit Administration and Georgia DOT, has released a Notice of Intent advising of the EIS process and seeking community input. Public comment is sought on the need and purpose of the project, alternatives and their potential impacts. Public meetings will be held during April and May 2012. View full release 4/3/12
