Snapfinger Road – Flat Shoals to Wesley Chapel Widening Project (DeKalb County)

The Georgia Department of Transportation has begun a Widening Project on Snapfinger Road, beginning at Flat Shoals Parkway and extending to Wesley Chapel Road. This construction also includes bridge reconstruction over Snapfinger Creek and the installation of an intersection video detection system. The project is designed to improve the safety and operation of the roadway through the corridor which serves as a major route to Interstate 20.

Project Details

Approximately 2.004 miles of Snapfinger Road will be widen between Flat Shoals Parkway and extending to Wesley Chapel Road. This will include a four-lane divided roadway with a 20-foot raised median and 4-foot bike lanes. Also included will be additional turn lanes and improvements to existing traffic signals.

Scheduled Completion Date:  May 2012

Impact on Travel

  • Construction schedule set to minimize impact on traffic during non-peak hours.
  • Work on this project will take place Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • No construction  will be scheduled during holidays or Sundays between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

Motorist Safety

Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling through a work zone. Signs will be posted alerting drivers of the work zone area. Speed limits in a work zone are reduced and enforced. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.
